San Pedro  Volcano

San Pedro volcano and the view of the Atitlan lake

 

Description: Two days middle demanding hike to the summit of this volcano located in the Atitlan Lake in Guatemala, from where you can watch the Atitlan lake, the pacific coast, the volcanic chain of Guatemala, and the north and western highlands.

Classification: high mountain, alpine landscape, highly demanding.

Altitude: 3,020 mts. (9,909 ft.) above sea level.

Duration: Two days.

Ascent: 3 hours up hill, first day.

Required equipment: hiking shoes, warm jacket and clothing.

Best time to do this excursion:  from November to April when there's no rain. It's always cooler in the mountains.

Weather: normally the temperature is freezing in the evening, night and early morning.

Basic requirement: To be in good physical conditioning, not to be sick.
